Bio-inspired Actuation & Sensing

Balloon-Assisted Robotic Arm With Compliant Interaction Capability

Principal Investigator: Chia-Hung Tsai

Background

The aging society increases the demand for safe and compliant human-robot interaction. Conventional rigid robotic arms have limitations in caregiving applications.

Research Objectives

To establish a balloon-assisted robotic system with compliant interaction capability and identify user conditions through pressure sensing signals.

Methods

The project integrates balloon actuation, pressure sensing, machine vision, and intelligent control for contact-state analysis and manipulation control.

Innovation

The proposed system utilizes balloon structures for compliant support and large-area contact while enabling real-time state recognition through sensing signals.

Expected Outcomes

The project aims to develop soft robotic technologies for patient support and caregiving, improving the safety and intelligence of human-robot interaction.
